 Why this story?

The home of my closest childhood friend sat at the edge of a pond. In Minnesota, there is no shortage of ponds and lakes, but this one was special — I was certain  magic existed between the reeds along its shore and within the water below its surface.  Unlike Ernest D., I never dove in to determine whether or not it had a bottom. If you even happen upon it, I encourage you to grab the nearest diving bell and find out for yourself.

“All this was hiding in a pond,” said Ernest D. “How exceptional.”
